BAIDU

For the western world, when you mention the term “search engine”, Google is the first thing to pop into your head. It basically owns the tech market, but little do we know, it has a few competitors when we look at search engines globally.

Today we shall discuss the Chinese search engine Baidu, which happens to be the second-largest search engine in the world. All I wish is that I could tell it to do my assignments in the UK, but alas, that is not possible. It could still really help with them, though.

What is Baidu?

Basically, it is a Chinese multinational company which provides internet services to all its users. Just like Google, it also sells products and provides AI help and has headquarters located in Beijing’s Haidian District.

It controls most of China’s search market and is a topic that might give you some authentic economics assignment help. As popular and successful as Baidu is, Amazon still triumphs when it comes to the smart speaker market due to its worldwide recognition and use.

• It is the most prominent internet search and services company in China and is used by a large population of the country, being headquartered in the city of Beijng.
• It has several different services on different websites that are affiliated with it, such as a financial information Website, with partner Hexun.com, along with offering new reporting services and such.
• Companies like Google and Apple have a strong enough hold on the market that Baidu’s success leaves them pretty much unaffected. They can continue to have their position because it has been secured in the global tech market, while Baidu continues to grow close behind.

How does it work?

Any service like this requires a very specific and complex working mechanism. The several different services that it provides need to be monitored, and by several different types of professionals, due to the diversity in their nature.

Its smart speakers operate through the DuerOS platform, and they used to be much more expensive than they are now. After releasing some stuff in the high-end market, they began to sell cheaper products due to it getting not as much attention as they thought it would.

  • Prices getting lower is a huge reason for Baidu’s popularity suddenly shooting up, with them selling products as less as $12. It flourished in the Chinese market.
  • Surprisingly enough, it has surpassed Alibaba, the previous leading store in the Chinese market. This was a great cause for buzz for Baidu’s services all over the internet and it rapidly gained popularity.
  • Google is making several efforts to keep up with this advancement and is launching new and improved technologies and services which are helping it stay on top.
  • It is currently trying to lay claim to the Indian portion of the Asian market, which will surely be a mutually beneficial alliance.

Some pros and cons

Its quick development means big things for it. The products Baidu is providing are high in demand and people want more of them, for example, statistics show that there were 42.9 million shipments of smart speakers made globally across all companies in 2019.

Imagine that. That’s a good percentage of the world’s population demanding to have smart speakers.

Baidu provides the same products that other companies do but cheaper. The quality is just as good, but since they manufacture locally, the pricing is more controlled, which obviously makes it a more reliable and trustworthy option.
• With people wanting to discover more and more about the hidden parts of the internet, Baidu has been getting more and more attention lately.
• Since it is still one of the lesser known companies, which makes becoming an early customer very advantageous because it doesn’t have the “brand tag” yet. Before enough people find out about it that it too becomes something of a status symbol, you might want to give it a try.
However, not everything about it is rainbows and sunshine.
• There is a serious lack of review online for Baidu products due to them not being as popular as Amazon or any other really big company at the moment. This means that getting their products will be somewhat of a shot in the dark because there’s no way to ensure if the products are trustworthy until you actually receive them.
• They might go into a bit of a loss due to lowering their prices and not being able to make it into the high-end market like Amazon did. That one setback was a huge blow to the business as far as keeping up with their competition goes, so they will have to somehow come up with ways to increase their reach and get back into the competition to excel.

Conclusion

Due to Baidu’s geographical restrictions and lack of global interaction, along with lack of awareness about it worldwide and people still being used to Google, Google will probably stay number one for a long time to come.

But that does not mean we still cannot get the most out of our second favorite answer to everything! Maybe it will get more popular in the future, or maybe Google has secured its position for good.

But as the internet progresses, the possibility of several new search engines emerging and taking its place increases as well. Google better watch its back in the coming years, or sadly enough, just like Google Chrome after Microsoft Edge got popular, it might lose its position.
