In today’s article, I am going to explain the basic SEO factors that have a great impact on your website ranking.
Here we go!
1. Website Design:
Most of the people have no idea that website design also affects your ranking in search engine result pages. Your website should be:
- Easily accessible from both mobile and desktop
- SEO optimized
Less website content is another factor that affects your ranking. Less website content can be a factor if you are not getting better ranking as compare to your competitors.
- Add a blog section; keep adding new blogs it sends signals to search engines that you have shared new information that need to be indexed.
- You must have heard about thin content and you should always avoid it. It means very less content or content that has no value to the user.
Moreover, the header section of the website must show latest offers and updates.
2. Security & Accessibility:
A website starting with the URL HTTPS is considered “secure” and one with HTTP is considered “insecure”.
HTTPS confirms a secure internet connection between the web browser and the server where “S” stands for “Secure”.
Indexing of a website has nothing to do with HTTPS but it is considered good for a secure website. As Google’s own John Mueller has tweeted that it’s a “light-weight ranking factor”.
Let’s talk about website accessibility!
- To make your website more accessible for search engine crawlers add robots.txt and sitemap.xml file of your website.
- Website Content should be easily displayed so choose text colors carefully.
- There should be no broken links.
3. Title Tag:
It specifies the title of a web page. Google displays only the first 50–60 characters of a title tag so do not exceed the limit.
Why Title tags are considered important?
When people search for anything on the internet, Google displays a list of results. All the results are in the form of text snippets with a headline and that headline is the title of that particular web page.
Most of the people click on any result just by looking at its title. If the title looks relevant and attractive it will generally get more clicks.
To make it SEO optimized add your keyword in the title tag or something related to content.
Title tags are also displayed at the top of web browser when you place the cursor on the tab. Some social networks also use your title when you share that page on social networks.
4. Meta Description:
It is an important on-page SEO factor. Meta description is the summary or text snippet of your webpage shown in the search results.
Meta description has a text limit up to 160 characters long.
Meta description along with the keywords and relevant content gets you more clicks.
You can check your Meta title and description length through any tool like seomofo that I personally use. There are many online blogs and tutorials to read that make it easy to learn on page SEO for beginners.
5. H1 Tag:
H1 or heading tag contains heading of the page. It has 6 different variations i.e. H1, H2, H3, H4, H5, H6 where H1 tag is the most important one.
Why H1 is considered important?
H1 is the first thing that search engine bots notice when they come to your website. It tells both search engines and visitors what your page is about.
Add your target keyword in H1 tag and for sub-headings you can use H2 tag. It means heading of your page should always come in H1 tag.
6. Images Alt Text:
Alt text means alternate text that is displayed when the user can’t see an image due to low webpage speed.
It is an important on-page SEO factor. It is valuable for both search engines as well as users visiting your page.
Why should I add Alt text?
1. As Google crawlers can’t understand images so it is better to add image related text within alt tag that will help Google understand what your image is about.
2. Second benefit of adding text within alt tag is for a better user experience. It describes the images to the visitors when they are not able to see it due to low page speed or other issues.
7. Internal Linking:
What is an internal link?
It simply means a link pointing to another page on the same domain. Internal links are considered good for SEO. They help search engines to understand the hierarchy or structure of your website.
While placing any internal links keep these things in mind:
- The page you are linking to must not be broken.
- There should be no redirects.
- Page you are pointing to should not be a dead link.
8. Page load Speed:
Page speed is one of the very important SEO ranking factors. Pages that take longer time to load have a higher bounce rate.
High page load time affect your ranking and user- experience. You can evaluate your web page load time by checking it on free Google page speed checking tool.
9. Mobile Optimized:
On April 21, 2015 Google released a new mobile friendly algorithm update named as “Mobilegeddon”.
You can use Google mobile-friendly test tool where you need to add your website URL to check whether your page is mobile-friendly or not. It will also highlight the issues that you need to fix.

10. Social Signals:
Social signals are the “likes”, “comments”, “views”, “shares” people place on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram or other social media sites.
Search engines give preference to a page or website that gets more recommendations from people.
Adding Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Youtube profile links on your website would be great.
11. Domain Authority
Domain authority of any website is a score developed by Moz that determines where your website ranks in search engine result pages. It ranges from a scale of 1 to 100.
Where domain authority is a ranking score for the entire domain on the other hand page authority is calculated on the basis of individual pages. More a website’s DA PA better would be its ranking in Google.
Focus on all of the above factors to increase the domain authority of your website. To check domain authority and page authority use official Moz DA PA checker tool.
12. Quality Backlinks
Getting quality backlinks from other websites is very good for a better search engine ranking. It will automatically improve your DA PA score. Try to get links from high authority sites that match with your page niche.
